Teeth whitening

No matter how diligently you brush, floss and visit the hygienist, your teeth are likely to stain gradually over time. So if you’ve noticed your teeth beginning to look yellow or brown, and would like a whiter and brighter smile, come and visit us for a tooth whitening consultation.

Professional treatment

We use the White Dental Beauty professional teeth whitening system. Safe and convenient, the treatment requires you to wear bespoke bleaching trays, created by Vision lab using your dental impressions. We provide you with White Dental Beauty prescription whitening gel, which you place in the trays and then wear for the prescribed amount of time. Usually, this is 4-6 weeks.

Advanced whitening

Some people have more severely stained teeth such as with tetracycline staining, or individually stained teeth, which requires more complex management.  If you have any queries about your discoloured teeth, your dentist will be happy to help.

You can help to maintain your newly-whiter teeth with regular visits to a dental hygienist.

Why come to this Borders dental clinic for teeth whitening?

If you’ve ever seen news stories about rogue whitening practitioners, you’ll understand just how important it is to see your dentist for teeth whitening.

Only a General Dental Council registered dentist like the team at The Gentle Touch, can legally prescribe the high-strength whitening gel needed to get the results you want – and only after a thorough examination to ensure your teeth and gums are healthy enough for the treatment. This means you’ll get the best possible results.

Commonly asked questions

How does the whitening gel work?

When the whitening gel is placed onto the teeth, reactive oxygen is released. The discoloured particles that are embedded within enamel and dentine are then chemically reduced and transformed into a colourless material.

Are there any side effects?

The main side effect that any tooth whitening can cause is sensitivity. This is usually slight and temporary.

How long does the whitening last?

Once a lovely bright tooth shade has been achieved, this should last for 2-3 years. This is dependent on many factors such as oral hygiene and diet.
